Service Terms

Plain-language terms for using Rewound Media's digitization service. By dropping off media with us, you're agreeing to what's below. If anything here doesn't sit right, ask before you hand anything over — happy to talk it through.
The Service
We transfer VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, and MiniDV tapes, 35mm slides, photo prints, and film negatives to digital files delivered on a USB drive (or a cloud link if you prefer). Your originals always come back to you along with the files.
Pricing and Estimates
The price you see on the website is the price. Your exact total is confirmed at drop-off when we count your items together — bring more than you booked and we adjust up, bring fewer and we adjust down. Slides, photos, and negatives have a 25-item minimum. No hidden fees, no subscriptions.
Your Originals
We treat your media like it's the only copy that exists, because it usually is. Nothing is ever thrown away, recycled, or kept — every item you drop off is returned to you, whether or not we could transfer it.
Damaged or Fragile Media
If a tape shows damage (mold, a cracked shell, warped or snapped tape), we'll text you a photo before doing anything. You decide: attempt the transfer anyway, or get it back as-is. If we can't transfer an item, you don't pay for that item.
Limits of Liability
Decades-old media is fragile, and playing it always carries some inherent risk — that's true no matter who does the transfer. We minimize it by cleaning and inspecting tapes before capture and maintaining our equipment, but we can't eliminate it. If an item is damaged or lost while in our care, our liability is limited to a refund of that item's transfer fee plus the cost of replacement blank media. We can't insure the sentimental value of your memories — no digitization service can — which is exactly why we recommend digitizing them before time does worse damage than a VCR ever could.
Your Files and Privacy
During transfer we spot-check the beginning, middle, and end of each capture for quality — that's the extent of anyone viewing your content. Your files are never shared, posted, or shown to anyone else. Working copies are deleted from our systems 30 days after you've received your USB drive, so speak up within that window if a file didn't play right. Pickup and Unclaimed Items
Completed orders are returned at your chosen location session or delivered to your door, depending on your tier. If you miss a pickup, no problem — we'll hold your originals and USB safely and text you to arrange another time. Items are held for at least 30 days, and we will never discard unclaimed media — we'll keep trying to reach you.
Payment
Payment is due when you get your items back — not before. The one exception is Same Day service, which is paid at drop-off since your job jumps the queue immediately. We take cash, card, Venmo, and Zelle.
